چکیده

Problem statement: Another newly emerging disease, chikungunya fever, has appeared in various places such as the Island of Réunion, Thailand and other India. To control an epidemic of disease once it has been established, the use of adulticide is proposed. Approach: To simulate the effects of different control measurement, a mathematical model incorporating the specific features of this disease has been proposed. Using the standard methods for analyzing the dynamical stability of the system, the role of the efficacy of the adulticide on the basic reproduction number of the disease is studied. Results and Conclusion: It was found that below a particular value of the efficacy which depends on the values of the parameters used in the model, adulticide would not be effective at controlling the epidemic.

Modeling Insect-Repellent Use for Chikungunya Disease Prevention Among US-Caribbean Travelers

Introduction: This study examined the relationship between specific psychosocial variables and the use of insect repellents on skin or clothing as a preventive behavior for Chikungunya fever among US travelers to Caribbean destinations. Methods: A cross-sectional retrospective online survey method was adopted. US residents who travelled to one of 34 Carib...

Effectiveness of Ultra-Low Volume Nighttime Applications of an Adulticide against Diurnal Aedes albopictus, a Critical Vector of Dengue and Chikungunya Viruses

Aedes albopictus, the Asian tiger mosquito, continues expanding its geographic range and involvement in mosquito-borne diseases such as chikungunya and dengue. Vector control programs rarely attempt to suppress this diurnal species with an ultra-low volume (ULV) adulticide because for maximum efficacy applications are conducted at night. During 2009-2011 we performed experimental nighttime appl...

Current Status of the Insecticide Resistance in Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) from Mexico

The mosquito Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) is the primary vector of dengue in Mexi‐ co and lately virus Chikungunya, although Aedes albopictus is widely distributed; its role in both diseases’ transmission has not been confirmed. The control of mosquitoes in Mex‐ ico includes source reduction consisting in the elimination of containers that are favorable sites for oviposition and developme...

Aedes furcifer and other mosquitoes as vectors of chikungunya virus at Mica, northeastern Transvaal, South Africa.

From 1977 to 1981, studies were conducted on a farm at Mica where Aedes furcifer had been a vector during an epidemic of chikungunya virus in 1976 to determine whether the virus persisted in this mosquito, the likelihood of vertical transmission, and whether any other Aedes species could have been vectors. Aedes furcifer/cordellieri was the only prevalent tree hole Aedes which fed readily on mo...

Modelling the control strategies against dengue in Singapore.

Notified cases of dengue infections in Singapore reached historical highs in 2004 (9459 cases) and 2005 (13,817 cases) and the reason for such an increase is still to be established. We apply a mathematical model for dengue infection that takes into account the seasonal variation in incidence, characteristic of dengue fever, and which mimics the 2004-2005 epidemics in Singapore. We simulated a ...
